Volunteer Recognition

Laura Beth Jackson

Laura Beth Jackson has lived in Rutherford County since she was three and graduated from MTSU in 2005 with her B.A. in English and is currently slaving on, um, working on her Masters in English literature also at MTSU.  She is the Community Relations Specialist at the Business Education Partnership Foundation at the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, and assists BEP executive director Lee Rennick with day-to-day management of the organization and co-directing the foundation's nine annual programs for teachers, school counselors and students. Laura Beth loves volunteering through the chamber's many community events, as well as with fabulous education organizations like Read To Succeed and Girls Raised in Tennessee Sciences (GRITS).

When not working, volunteering or sweating over a paper for school, Laura Beth tries to keep up with her three R's-- , reading, 'riting, and running! Her parents live in Williamson County where her mother is a counselor and her father a real estate agent for Bob Parks realty. She has one brother who attends the University of Cincinatti and is pursuing his Phd. in German Literature (she doesn't understand German, but she loves her brother!). She loves activities with her friends and boyfriend that include frisbee golf at Barfield, cooking up cuisine at home, watching good movies, and attending plays and concerts.

One of Laura Beth's favorite quotes is from Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray : "Life has been your art; you have set yourself to music; your days are your sonnets." It is a reminder that no matter what we do, our ideas, affections and beliefs are shown through our day-to-day actions. Life is a dance, a piece of art, which we create every day.

Laura Beth strongly believes in the importance of reading and the written word for individuals, families and communities, and the necessity of volunteers to share reading, stories and ideas with others. But when it comes to helping out, she believes personal passion is key--that when you believe in something and volunteer for those organizations that match your personal goals and interests, it's no longer "work," but rather an incredible opportunity to share your joy with others.

Laura Beth says "Thank you!" to the remarkable individuals who staff and voluteer for Read To Succeed, and who have made a community of literacy in Rutherford County. She feels great that she gets to work with so many cool people.
