Ruth Ventrice
Ruth Ventrice, Clifford and Karen Claud at
Smyrna Reading Rally
Education: Received a BS in Biology/Pre-Med from Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville in 1983 and a BSW in Social Work from MTSU in 1999. Have been with United Way since January of 2000 and became Success By 6 director in 2005.
Hobbies: Reading (of course!), playing drums (everything from jazz to metallica), enjoying time with family and friends
Favorite quote: "Children are made readers on the laps of their parents." -Emilie Buchwald As Success By 6 director, it is my primary focus to encourage parents to be very loving and involved with their children. That bonding helps children to develop physically, intellectually and emotionally in a health way. I can't think of a better way to promote that healthy connection between parents and their children than encouraging them to snuggle up together and share a book.
Other Organizations Involved With: The Homeless Task Force of Murfreesboro, The Early Childhood Network (of the Guidance Center), The Families First Advisory Council (of the Dept. of Human Services), The Community Anti-Drug Coalition of Rutherford County, the Kinship Coalition of St Clair St Senior Center, the TNCEP (Nutrition) Coalition of the UT Extension office, the Franklin Heights Coalition, and Stand for Children
Thoughts on Literacy and Read To Succeed: It is a great joy to be part of the Read To Succeed council. I love working with colleagues and friends who share a passion for reading, who understand the powerful influence literacy plays in human happiness and success, and who are willing to collaborate to provide a united helping effort for the community.
